Granite Reef is a recreation site along Arizona's lower Salt River. Looking north, the distinctive sloping formations of Red Rock are reflected in the water. Eastward, the violet Four Peaks tower about above gently curved hillsides.
I painted the eastward view, girded on the right by a slender Velvet Mesquite tree. At noon, the sun was overhead and I just had to capture the violets and blues of the distant formations. The reflections kept changing as kayakers paddled along the river, but that added to the textural quality of the moving water.
