This is my first plein air painting of the New Year, which I painted by the Salt River at a place called Sheep's Crossing. It was a cold day, but the sun was shining brightly.
The late morning view of the violet cast shadows behind chartreuse foliage and trees stopped me in my tracks. I typically paint water when I'm down there, but the immediacy of this northern view and the angle of the sun's light on the mountains would soon fade. I hope you like it, too!
