I painted this view from my home in watercolor on bamboo paper. Challenging myself with new surfaces and attention to shapes and contrasts has been beneficial to me. I paint with more conviction, especially of familiar places.
During the day, the landscape looks dry and "greige" (beige+gray), but when the sun begins to set and darkness dominates the landscape, bits of light and vibrant colors persist. There are several paths between these Mexican Bird of Paradise bushes. It seems as though the brilliant orange, red, and yellow flowers provide a guiding light along the way.
