Hope Ahead

I've enjoyed painting watercolor on different paper surfaces. I painted this desert landscape after walking outside after dinner one night. Rain looked promising, and I surely hoped so, since we'd been without measurable precipitation for a while.

I put away my blurry Iphone photo that I used for reference and proceeded to splash bright, then, rich dark colors on the paper. The washes floated a little from too much water, but settled in pretty well. I layered cool color in the clouds and warmed the foreground for more depth in a dominantly blue-black painting.

The light from the fading sunset glowed, then, muted itself over the distant Santans.
