Watching The Tide Roll In, Plein Air

When I visit Santa Cruz, I often paint at this spot, Pleasure Point, off East Cliff Drive. I used to live farther east, past where the road ended. There's such a timeless peace that I feel in the sea breezes, even when it's chilly, as it was the day I painted this watercolor.

These days, I don't fuss with my plein air paintings once back indoors. I've destroyed many a painting that way; that is, giving too much love to details and less to my initial intent. 

People like to walk down the hills like I did, to sit and watch the sunset at low tide as the waves ebbed and lapped agains the rocks below.
